You have just received a letter from Synergie Eurodatacar requesting an annual fee, and you do not understand what it corresponds to. This situation affects many drivers after purchasing a new or used vehicle.
The etching of the windows was done at the dealership, often presented as included in the sale, and then a bill arrives months later. Before paying or ignoring this letter, you need to understand what you actually signed and what legal levers protect you.
Legal nature of the Eurodatacar contract: what changes everything
The first reflex is to find your car order form and the accompanying documents signed at the dealership. Synergie, a brokerage company of the DCO group, markets both a theft marking service and additional insurance guarantees. These two services are legally distinct.
The physical etching on your windows is a one-time service that has already been performed. Terminating the contract does not erase the etching that has already been done. What you pay for afterward is the registration in the tracking file and, depending on the case, additional insurance coverage.
Why does this distinction matter? Because the Hamon law (Article L.113-15-2 of the Insurance Code) allows for termination at any time after one year, but it only applies to contracts governed by the Insurance Code. If your billing only concerns a service (assistance, file), the legal framework differs. Knowing how not to pay Synergie Eurodatacar first requires identifying the exact nature of your commitment.

Check the proof of your signed commitment
Many drivers discover that they never signed a specific document for Synergie Eurodatacar. The contract may have been buried in the stack of documents from the dealership, checked by default, or presented as a formality related to the etching.
It is up to the company requesting payment to prove your commitment (Article 1353 of the Civil Code). In practice, you can request in writing a copy of the contract bearing your signature. Without this document, the debt is contestable.
The procedure to follow by registered mail
- Send a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt to Synergie Eurodatacar requesting the complete copy of the signed contract, along with the applicable general and specific conditions.
- Specify that you contest the amount claimed pending this proof, citing Article 1353 of the Civil Code.
- Keep a copy of your letter and the acknowledgment of receipt: these are your proofs in case of any subsequent dispute.
If the company cannot provide a signed contract, you have a strong argument to refuse payment. However, if a contract does indeed exist, the strategy changes: you must then terminate it properly.
Terminate Synergie Eurodatacar according to the applicable law
Does your contract fall under insurance? Two legal provisions protect you, depending on when you act.
The Chatel law and the notice of expiration
The insurer must send you a notice of expiration reminding you of the deadline to terminate, no later than fifteen days before that date. A late notice of expiration extends your termination period by twenty days. If you have not received any notice, you can terminate at any time without penalty.
Check the date of receipt of the letter on the envelope or postal tracking. This detail may be enough to invalidate the tacit renewal of your contract.
The Hamon law after twelve months
For an insurance contract that has been in effect for more than a year, termination takes effect thirty days after receipt of your request. No justification is required. The registered letter remains the safest format.
Blocking a bank withdrawal does not constitute termination. The opposition with your bank prevents the debit, but the contract remains active. Synergie Eurodatacar can continue to demand the amount, or even refer the file to a collection agency. Combining bank opposition and a termination letter is the most effective method.

Contract subscribed remotely or at the dealership: the right of withdrawal
Did you subscribe to this contract directly at the dealership, amidst a pile of documents? If the contract was concluded outside of a business premises or remotely, the Insurance Code provides for a right of withdrawal (Articles L.112-2-1 and L.112-2-2).
This right may, however, be excluded when the service has been fully performed before the end of the period, with your express consent. The etching done on the same day as the signature may complicate the exercise of this withdrawal. If the withdrawal period has not expired, exercise it by registered mail without delay.
In any case, check the general conditions: some mention a thirty-day period to withdraw from ancillary insurance. This period runs from the date of subscription, not from the date of receipt of the first notice of expiration.
What remains active after terminating the Eurodatacar contract
A common concern is whether the theft marking will still be useful if you terminate. The physical marking on the windows and the registration in the file remain valid for several years after the end of the insurance contract. The theft marking works independently of the annual fee.
Also check your main auto insurance contract. The guarantees offered by Eurodatacar (theft protection, assistance) are often already included in your standard coverage. Paying twice for the same protection is not beneficial.
Proper termination, by registered mail and within the legal deadlines, remains the only method that protects your financial and legal situation. Ignoring a letter without formalizing your refusal leaves the door open for follow-ups, even collections. A registered letter costing a few euros saves you months of hassle.
